Green Forest to Frozen Lands and Swamp — territories, fishing, portals, and expansion

Last updated:

Map Hub

Spiritstead plays out on a hand-drawn map that starts small and opens in layers. Your first save lands in the Green Forest, a gentle starter biome where straw huts, carrot plots, and early warehouses fit naturally between trees and hills. Progress is not just about building taller stacks of wood — it is about buying territory tiles, pushing the frontier toward the Snow biome, and eventually routing spirits through portals and crystal nodes so the Grand Spirit Sanctuary can be restored. This hub ties together every map-focused page on the wiki so you can plan expansion before you spend your last coin on decoration.

How the world is structured

Think of the map as three overlapping systems: biomes, territory grids, and spirit infrastructure. Biomes change the look and unlock list of what you can place — fishing ponds feel at home in the Green Forest, while snowy Frozen Lands introduce colder palettes and late-game production hooks. Full-game Swamp territories (Swamp guide) add wetland frontiers beyond demo endpoints. Territories are the purchasable land chunks you unlock with gold; each purchase adds buildable space and often reveals new interactables for spirit hunts. Spirit infrastructure — portals, nodes, and sanctuary shards — sits on top of both, turning a pretty village into an automated cozy machine.

If you are still learning the core loop, read Getting Started first, then return here when food and happiness are stable enough to afford the next tile.

Green Forest — where every Adventure save begins

The Green Forest biome is your tutorial continent in practice. Early quests walk you through houses, log cutting stations, carrot plots, bonfires, and the first warehouse pair. Even in Creative Mode, the Green Forest is where you test road thickness, house rotation, and bonfire placement before you commit real coins in Adventure.

Key early map habits:

  • Leave a buffer lane between production and happiness buildings so dragged villagers do not block each other.
  • Buy one territory before you cram a second sawmill — cramped layouts cost more to fix with the F reposition tool later.
  • Watch for world interactables (flowers, bushes, odd rocks) at the edge of owned tiles; several spirits only appear after expansion.

Snow biome / Frozen Lands — the mid-game horizon

The Snow biome — labeled Frozen Lands in full-release materials — is the visual and mechanical shift the demo advertises on Steam: you grow in the Green Forest, then push toward colder ground as town level rises. Snow does not erase your Green Forest work — it extends the canvas. Plan roads and warehouse clusters so you are not hauling villagers across the entire map every time a quest asks for wool or cold-weather decorations.

Snow also tends to coincide with higher territory prices and sanctuary-adjacent goals. Before you rush the border, skim Adventure Walkthrough for recommended population and spirit counts so the biome change feels exciting, not overwhelming.

Swamp territories — full-game wetlands

Swamp territories are not fully playable in the public demo — they arrive with the August 6, 2026 full release at 19:00 CEST. Wetlands likely extend sanctuary pacing with new waterfront rules that pair with fishing and markets habits you build in Green Forest. Read the dedicated Swamp biome guide for preparation checklists before you unlock marsh tiles in Adventure Mode.

Territories and expansion pacing

Territories are the coin sinks that literally grow your map. Each tile has a price tag visible before purchase; early expansions are cheap, later ones can drain a healthy treasury if you impulse-buy while quests are unfinished. Good pacing looks like this:

  1. Stabilize food ticks and happiness in owned land.
  2. Sell surplus wood or crops for a cushion above the next tile price.
  3. Expand toward quest markers or spirit hints rather than symmetry alone.
  4. Rebuild roads and warehouses after the purchase — moving buildings with F is cheaper than demolishing.

If expansion stalls, the bottleneck is usually economy, not map size. Cross-check Production & Warehouses and Villager Happiness before blaming the terrain.

Spirit portals and crystal nodes on the map

Two map features bridge city building and spirit automation:

  • Spirit portals open after story milestones (often tied to town level and sanctuary progress). They welcome wandering spirits into your village loop and unlock spirit-specific buildings.
  • Crystal nodes are placeable structures you assign spirits to — Peppok is a common first pick — so shards generate passively toward sanctuary upgrades.

Portals and nodes should be planned with the same care as warehouses: near roads, not blocking drag paths, and close enough to housing that you notice when automation stalls. Deep dives live in How to Unlock Spirits and Spirits Overview.

Map planning by game mode

ModeMap priority
AdventureFollow quest-led expansion; do not over-buy tiles before spirit portals are online.
CreativeUnlock remaining spirits and test Snow layouts without coin pressure; great for screenshot tours.

Adventure Mode runs about 6–8 hours to sanctuary restoration, so the map you shape in hour one still matters in hour six. Creative Mode uses the same geography every run — perfect for rehearsing territory buys you will execute later in Adventure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What biomes exist in Spiritstead?

The demo covers Green Forest and Snow progression. The full game adds Frozen Lands (the colder region demo players reach) and Swamp territories beyond demo endpoints.

How do I unlock more land?

Spend gold to purchase territory tiles from the map edge. Prices rise as you expand, so stabilize food and happiness before buying decorative space you cannot afford to develop.

When do spirit portals appear?

Portals open through Adventure milestones tied to town level and sanctuary progress — often after you establish core production and your first spirit helpers.

What are crystal nodes for?

Crystal nodes let assigned spirits generate shards passively. Those shards feed spirit buildings and Grand Spirit Sanctuary restoration goals in Adventure Mode.

Does the map change in Creative Mode?

The geography is the same each run; Creative removes quest pressure so you can expand freely, hunt spirits, and rehearse Snow biome layouts.
